Sir Jack Brabham, bust on view at the National Portrait Gallery

Over the weekend I took the opportunity to visit the National Portrait Gallery to view the very impressive bronze sculpture of Sir Jack Brabham. Until I was informed by one of our Royal Daimler Project partners, I hadn’t been aware that it was on display. If you attend the Gallery, you’ll find Sir Jack very prominently positioned at the enterance to the main gallery.

Rolling out the royal cars

The dust covers came off, the conservation team were on hand and the engines came to life at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.

It was one of those rare moments when the spark of history is tangible. Where the smell of old engines conjures bygone stories and brings history racing in to the present. This was the rare experience witnessed by the members of the Royal Automobile Club Car Motoring Enthusiasts Group who came to Hear History Hum at the National Museum. We are very excited about our collaboration with the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, (RACA), in Sydney, who held a motoring gala dinner on 3 July to celebrate Australian motoring history.

Royal Automobile Club of Australia Motoring Gala Dinner

7:00pm, Wednesday 3 July 2013, Macquarie Street Sydney

The Royal Automobile Club of Australia invites you to join members and guests to celebrate Australia’s rich motoring history with leaders of motoring clubs and the motoring industry.

Celebrated motoring journalist Mr David Berthon and Dr Guy Hansen, Head Curator, National Museum of Australia will be the evening’s guest speakers.

The evening will include fundraising activities in support of the National Museum of Australia’s Royal Daimler Project. A range of fabulous prizes will be auctioned and raffled, with all funds raised on the night going towards the conservation of the 1948 Daimler used during the first Australian Royal Tour of Queen Elizabeth II in 1954.
